On behalf of all staff at Bayside Secondary School, we would like to welcome each of you as we look ahead to the 2014 – 2015 school year. BSS has a long tradition of providing relevant and challenging programs that benefit and prepare our students for the 21st Century. To see some of our gains from last year at the school, I would encourage you to take a look at our 2011-2012 Achievements on our main page of our website – www.hpedsb.on.ca/bss. Recently, we have added a Twitter feed (@bssnews) and a YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/bssnews12) in addition to our traditional communication channels. When you attend Bayside Secondary School, you become part of a school community which values high levels of accomplishments and excellence in all facets of school life and is progressive in its learning and leadership.

This course calendar has been designed to provide information on our school community highlighting the many unique features of BSS including French Immersion and Advanced Placement courses. It contains course descriptions and flowcharts of course pathways to help you choose courses which best meet your interests, strengths and passions. We encourage you to review the information in this calendar carefully with your teachers and parents/guardians. As you have questions, please contact us. If you are a newcomer to the school, our school and in-school team contact information is provided in the Contacts section.

We are proud of our excellent programs which prepare students for university, college, apprenticeship and the work world. We continue to move forward in providing opportunities and learning to support the changes occurring in our ever-changing technological world. More than 80% of our graduates continue to post-secondary institutions with many students winning significant scholarships at the provincial and national levels. Our students continually place amongst the top schools on the EQAO literacy and math tests and our athletic teams each year move on to compete at regional and provincial levels. In the past year, many student athletes participated at the Ontario provincial championships in Swimming and Track and Field with two students placing in the top 10 of their events.   Students involved in Badminton and members of the Cross Country team also competed at the OFSAA level.

Students in our Arts programs consistently capture top honours at regional competitions and we provide unequalled opportunities for leadership and citizenship within and outside the school. In addition to these areas of excellence, BSS students have the opportunity of experiencing a multitude of exciting extra-curricular activities and events throughout the school year. Every year, we offer additional opportunities in the extra-curricular area based on student request and leadership.

To our new students, we look forward to you joining our school community as well as your involvement in school life throughout the next several years. To our returning students, we encourage you to continue to "Fire It Up" in all of your contributions to school life and we look forward to supporting you in your continued growth and leadership. As we continue to learn and grow together, we invite all of you to “Make It Happen” at Bayside Secondary School and to strengthen "our Pride".
