BSS believes that all students can achieve success. Students are provided with enabling, inclusive, and dynamic educational experiences in the least restrictive learning environment possible. Based on the Continuous Assessment Process, we believe that early intervention, proactive program planning and ongoing support are essential to maximize student achievement. A wide variety of interventions and accommodations are implemented within the regular class program as appropriate to support student needs.
Students with exceptional learning needs may also be supported by designated Learning Support Teachers (LSTs), in addition to classroom teacher and shared Educational Assistant supports.

In specific circumstances, a system referral for placement outside the regular classroom may be considered based on specific criteria to meet the programming needs of some exceptional learners with highly complex needs. At BSS, there are two types of specialized programs;
- The Life Skills Program (LSP) focuses on teaching life skills, numeracy/literacy skills, and community/independent living skills through alternative (non-credit, K) courses. Students in LSP will leave secondary school with a Certificate of Accomplishment.
- The emphasis of the Community Integration Program (CIP) is the attainment of Ministry credits at Locally Developed and Workplace levels, the development of technology skills to support learning, and work experience. Students work towards graduation from secondary school with an Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC), which requires successful completion of a minimum of 14 Ontario Ministry of Education credits (7 compulsory and 7 elective).
